Strongest Launch Ever for the Giving Campaign to Support Piedmont’s Schools

 In News

The 2018-19 Piedmont Education Foundation’s Giving Campaign kicked off on Tuesday, September 25 with festivities across Piedmont’s schools and mailings sent to residents.  In the first two days, there was a 115% increase in the number of donors versus last year. And after the first two weeks of the campaign, a record $500,000 had been raised towards the $2.5 million goal.

An Energizing Start to the Campaign

Heather Frank, Executive Director of the Piedmont Education Foundation (PEF), is elated by these results.  “This year has been particularly energizing. We got the word about the need out to the full Piedmont school community — current parents, parents of alumni, grandparents, and Piedmonters without children who understand how important strong public schools are for our community. They are all stepping up like never before. We still have a long way to go to reach $2.5 million, but this is a strong start!”

Randy Booker, Superintendent of the Piedmont Unified School District (PUSD), is also thrilled. “Teachers and administrators could not be more pleased with the early response to this year’s Giving Campaign.  It signals to us that the town of Piedmont is committed to providing the resources we need to give our children the best education possible – especially when the need is the greatest this year.”

Why The Giving Campaign Matters

The Giving Campaign is raising funds to support the 2019-20 school year, when the difference between what PUSD receives from state and local taxes and what it costs to educate Piedmont students will be $4.3 million.  Additional funding and support from donations is required in order to maintain the programs that set Piedmont apart from other districts. Piedmont’s small class sizes, rigorous A.P. classes, art and music programs, counseling programs, and library programs are possible only with the generous support of the community.

The Giving Campaign runs through the end of 2018, and lawn signs will be provided to residents for donations made before November 1.
