New PEF Board Convenes to Support Schools

 In News

The new Board of Directors for the Piedmont Education Foundation (PEF) met on Friday, September 11 to kick-off the school year. The PEF Board is comprised of 30 individuals, including parents with children in the Piedmont schools, and community members. Last spring, PEF successfully merged with the Associated Parent Clubs of Piedmont, and the new, combined board is poised for a strong year of supporting Piedmont schools. PEF is responsible for raising over $3 million annually to support the Piedmont schools, as well as facilitating communications between the schools, parents, and community.

The largest annual fundraiser for the Piedmont schools is PEF’s annual Giving Campaign. This year’s Giving Campaign will kick-off on Friday, September 18 with a party at the home of Shanti and Doug Brien from 5 – 7pm. There will also be kick-off celebrations at each school site. Families are invited to support both the Annual Fund and the Endowment Fund. Both funds generate revenue for our schools for today and the immediate future.  The Endowment, however, is also a source of stable, long-term funding in perpetuity.

Also new this year is PEF’s recently launched website, PiedmontEdFoundation.org. The website is an excellent source of information about how PEF supports the schools, and it makes donating and getting involved even easier. Visitors to the new PEF website can buy Scrip online, log-in to the online Student Directory, donate to The Giving Campaign, and more.

PEF’s merger with APCP last spring has brought both new energy and increased responsibility to the board.  Now charged with overseeing $3 million in revenue, in addition to our $6 million endowment, at the September 11th meeting, the board unanimously approved:

  • $2.7 million grant to PUSD, to be presented at the September 30 Board of Education meeting
  • The addition of an Executive Director to oversee our expanded operations and harness the great energy of current staff and volunteers
