Parents and Community Unite to Support Excellence in Piedmont Schools with $2.68 Million Grant

(October 5, 2015) Piedmont, CA – This week, the Piedmont Education Foundation (PEF) announced it has presented a check for $2.68 million to the Piedmont Unified School District (PUSD) for use during the 2015-16 school year. Hundreds of Piedmont parents and community members gave generously to PEF through The Giving Campaign, Spring Fling and the Endowment last year to ensure continued excellence in PUSD schools this year, and in the years to come.

This donation will allow the District to fund programs and educators who deliver core academic instruction, including support for social and emotional curriculum, STEM exploration, and arts and music for students in every grade. PEF funds are allocated to every Piedmont school, and allow the administrative team and principals to put resources towards staffing the programs that matter most for their students.

“These funds reflect the community’s continuing commitment to public education,” said Christine Wente von Metzsch, PEF Chair. “Thanks to our parent volunteers and our donors, Piedmont schools can continue to provide a wonderful educational experience for all students. The 2015 PEF donation will fund critical staff and programs such as teaching libraries, academic counseling, technology, STEM electives, the Wellness Center, the College and Career Center, teachers’ aides, art, music and more.”

“The Piedmont community support for public education is remarkable,” said Superintendent Randy Booker. “With our state funding falling and our enrollment on the rise, PEF funds are essential for us to be able to offer an extraordinary education – with innovative and inspiring educators – in classrooms where all students can thrive.”
