801nce a Month: Intro To Ikebana

April 29 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
$18

Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement that emphasizes harmony, balance, and symbolism. In this introduction class, Chris
“Hokyu” Mehling will explain the difference between Western-style flower arranging and Japanese-style flower arranging.

In addition to a brief history, Chris will lead the class through a demonstration while explaining the key aspects of Ikebana. Using basic Ikebana principles, participants will then have an opportunity to assemble a unique creation using their own materials. Class will conclude with a brief (very gentle) analysis of each arrangement.

Ikebana can take years to master. In this intro class, participants will take their first steps into the world of Japanese floral design, gaining hands-on experience with the techniques and principles that define the art. If students discover their inner love for Ikebana, Chris can share local opportunities to continue their practice.

Registrants will receive a list of necessary equipment and materials to bring. Provision can be made for instructor-provided materials – please contact PRD@piedmont.ca.gov
