Dress Best for Less Donates Another $60,000 to Piedmont Schools through PEF

The Piedmont Education Foundation is pleased to announce that they have received yet another generous donation of $60,000 from Piedmont’s own local resale shop, Dress Best For Less (DBFL).  The gift was presented to PEF at the May 19 Board of Director’s meeting.  An identical donation last fall, brings DBFL’s 2015-16 annual contribution to $120,000, making the resale shop the single largest donor to the Piedmont schools this year.  Since its founding in 1982, DBFL has donated over $1 million to the Piedmont schools through PEF.

The check was presented by DBFL president Peggy Chan to PEF Chair Christine Wente von Metzsch amidst cheers and fanfare from the PEF board.  Says Wente von Metzsch,  “We are extremely fortunate that DBFL is committed to our schools — their contributions this year ensure funding of two full-time teachers for the coming year.  DBFL makes a difference!”  PEF Executive Director Susan Terrill adds, “A local resale shop is an incredible resource — we are so lucky.  When cleaning closets, there’s no question where our hand-me-downs will go!  On the flipside, it’s the best place to find fun bargains.”

DBFL President Peggy Chan is proud of her organization’s longstanding history of supporting the Piedmont schools: “Supporting education in our community is a priority for us — and donating to PEF ensures our contributions have an impact at each school site.”  Chan will be joining the PEF board next year as the DBFL liaison, when Gayle Sells will assume the job of DBFL president.

DBFL  is a nonprofit organization benefiting the children of Piedmont whose shops offer affordable quality vintage and gently used clothing and decor at their shop at 3861 Piedmont Ave. in Oakland.  Residents can also support the schools by donating gently used items at the Marking Room at 799 Magnolia Ave in Piedmont.
